A Trans-Tasman Rally Challenge Honouring a True Enthusiast
The rally communities of Australia and New Zealand are proud to announce the launch of the Mulligan Memorial Cup - a new Trans-Tasman Challenge that will unite four of the region’s most iconic gravel rallies in a celebration of competition, camaraderie, and shared motorsport heritage.​

Rallying in the spirit of Ed

The Mulligan Memorial Cup is named in tribute to Ed Mulligan, a true rally legend whose passion, humour, and dedication left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Ed was much more than a competitor—he was a mentor, organiser, and lifelong advocate for the sport. Known for his skill behind the wheel, sharp wit, and willingness to support and encourage fellow competitors, Ed competed in countless events on both sides of the Tasman. His love for gravel rallying, and the friendships it fostered, inspired the idea for this international challenge.

Whether you're a seasoned competitor or part of the next generation of rally enthusiasts, the Mulligan Memorial Cup invites you to be part of something special.
This new series reflects Ed’s legacy: a celebration of grassroots motorsport, a commitment to excellence, and a spirit of generosity and fun. By naming the trophy in his honour, the rally community ensures that his impact lives on through every stage and every story.

It's not just about the fastest time - it's about community, respect and keeping the spirit of rallying alive across the Tasman.
A Challenge Across Borders
The Mulligan Memorial Cup will rotate across Australia and New Zealand, encouraging competitors to experience events in both countries.
Points will be awarded based on performance in each round, with overall honours awarded to the top crews representing their respective nations.
More details on scoring and eligibility will be released in the coming months as organisers work closely with event directors.
Thanks to a generous donation from Ed's executors, Bette and Shayne, a beautifully restored perpetual trophy from Ed's own collection will be awarded to the top scoring competitors across the series.
The trophy will be proudly displayed at the event chosen by the outright winners, until the next challenge begins.
